Spring is finally here, but that also means that there are new possible risks to your pet

Here are some common things to take note of during Spring time.....

Ticks - Ticks are not only harmful to humans, but carry a number of infectious diseases that affect dogs. Avoid long grass if possible and always thorough check your dogs after walks for any lumps. You can remove ticks yourself using a special tick tool, or if you're unsure then please contact your regular vet as soon as possible.

Hot weather & cars - you should never leave your dog in a car unattended, even on a warm day. Inside car temperatures can become VERY hot, even with the window open. If you have to travel far with your pet on a hot day, always remember to take regular breaks for water and try to keep them in a shaded area.

Weedkiller - if you believe that your dog has ingested, licked, or chewed a plant treated with weedkiller, contact your vet immediately and please take the container of product with you if possible.

Adders - Adders are common during the warmer month, particularly in sand dunes or along costal walks. The Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire Coast are very popular areas to spot them. Realistically they are more frightened of you then you are of them, but they may bite if they believe they are under attack. If you're pet is bitten by an adder then please contact your vet immediately.

Chocolate - obviously with the Easter bunny visiting, that means there is a lot more Chocolate likely to be around. All chocolate is toxic to dogs, typically the darker the chocolate the higher the risk. So make sure to keep those Easter eggs out of reach of little paws
